Pumpkinfest Delivers Big Autumn Fun—and a First for Football

Port Elgin had quite the pumpkin-filled weekend. Thousands showed up to Saugeen Shores on **Saturday, October 3rd** for the Pumpkinfest—and there was plenty to see and do. Giant vegetable weigh-offs had folks marveling at the enormous gourds. The midway kept families spinning and laughing. A car show rolled in for folks who love a good classic ride. And there were activities all around for kids and grown-ups alike. But the real debut happened the night before. On **Friday, October 2nd**, Saugeen District Secondary School beat Kincardine District Secondary School **22–19** in the inaugural **Pumpkin Bowl**—a brand-new football game tradition for Port Elgin. First-ever night games, new bragging rights, and great community spirit all on the field. Oh—and the Winterhawks kicked off their season at the PLEX that same Friday night, with a special fundraiser for Special Olympian Austin McLaren heading to the Games in Santiago, Chile. That's a lot of autumn joy in one weekend. Here's to Port Elgin bringing people together when the leaves turn gold.

“Thanks to everyone who made this weekend shine—from the growers to the volunteers to every family who came out to celebrate.” — Uncle Sam
