Sam's Grill · Port Elgin

Port Elgin is Lake Huron at its best — the main beach, the harbour, and sunsets people drive hours for. Summer fills the town with cottagers and beach days; the rest of the year belongs to the locals of Saugeen Shores who keep its Main Street honest. Our Goderich Street store feeds both: fresh-cut fries after the beach, hot poutine when the lake wind turns, and a family behind the counter either way.

Every Sam's Grill is run by the family that owns it — ours is no different. The Rajni family has been behind the counter in Port Elgin since June 2025, pressing the patties, learning the regulars' names, and arguing (gently) about whether the smoked meat sandwich is the best thing on the board. Come decide for yourself. A beach town is a different business. In July you're full from open to close and everybody's sandy and starving; in February it's the same twenty faces and you'd better know their orders. I like that. It means you can't coast in summer and you can't hide in winter. Newest store we've got, and the rule is the same as it was in 2011 — if it's not good enough for my own table, it doesn't leave the kitchen.

Meet Rajni

Rajni opened Port Elgin in 2025, and it's the first Sam's Grill on the lake. Fourteen years in, he runs it the same as the first: family behind the counter, nothing leaving the kitchen he wouldn't put in front of his own table.

Sam's Grill is a family favorite! We have tried nearly all menu items. Full flavor, full portions, decent price and deals for families. The fries are delicious, and always hot. They make delicious poutine ** Newfie poutine is just like down home. The donair is also a must try! The staff are very kind, and work hard. Much respect.

It was fine. Poutine was to go- gravy was poured on fries- was like a soup when I got home. Had lunch @ Queens day before and felt like Queens was better value and quality.

Great little place on the main road. Clean and bright when we walked in. The employees were friendly. They claimed to have Vegan food on their front doors but when asked it is only a burger, the veggie poutine has diary. They seemed a bit confused between vegetarian and vegan which concerned us a bit. We took a chance on the veggie burger. It was good. The fries were good. Maybe needed a bit more salt but it was a good lunch! I would go back.

Quite possibly the best burger and fry place I've been to. I ordered for an overtime window at work and was incredibly happy with the food. I had the hot and spicy Poutine and it was out of this world. If you're looking for good burgers and fries, Sam's is the place!!!!
